More than 500 students, university staff, academic scholars and representatives from the industry, politics and society gathered at University of Paderborn’s’ main auditorium on Sunday, January 15th for the 41st New Year's Reception.
Prof. Dr. Birgit Riegraf welcomed the guests and looked back on the highlights of the past year in her speech on the development of the university. This year’s testimonial speech from Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Susanne Baer, judge of the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe made the – in her opinion – worrying situation in Germany subject of discussion. In her speech: "In Good Condition? Current Challenges between Politics and Law ", she emphasized the role of constitutional law.
Traditionally, recognizing outstanding academic achievements, takes an important part at the New Year's Reception. In several areas, successful young academics were able to receive awards. The picture shows Dr. Andreas Siebe (left) and this year’s prize-winners of the Universitätsgesellschaft: Uğur Tanriverdi who received the prize for the best foreign student, Johannes Stüer and Tanuj Hasija who were awarded for their final theses and the DAAD prize-winner Aqtime Gnouleleng Edjabou as well as Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Kabst, vice president for technology transfer and marketing.
