A so-called scenario conference is an event targeted at elaborating scenarios within 2 – 3 days and in groups of up to 25 people. That format has been developed by the ScMI AG and is tailored individually to each single client.

In order to maximize the results within the minimized time frame of such a conference, the event is prepared by a relatively small core team. That procedure allows the whole process of scenario development to be ran through by all people involved.

The ScMI looks back on several years of experience regarding that conference format, often not only comprising its concept and facilitation but also further strategy and innovation processes. Well-known and sizeable corporations such as Bosch, Deutsche Telecom, Metro, Otto and Siemens count towards the futurologists’ references as well as medium-sized companies like Becker KG, Dorfner, KNV or SWU Energie.

Many of these organisations chose the compact scenario conference in order to make it possible for both customers, suppliers and external innovators to join the process. –Like Sulzer Innotec did, for instance, generating scenarios for promising markets in the field of medical and automotive technology together with key clients.

Beyond that, the scenario conference format is paid special attention by associations and federations that aim at providing common ground for their members to jointly discuss possible future developments. These multi-client scenario projects have, inter alia, been realized by EHI Retail Institute, Verband Deutscher Papierfabriken (VDP), Bundesinnungsverband des Gebäudereiniger-Handwerks and Fachverband Faltschachtel-Industrie (FFI).

This, of course, also applies to public institutions like the Bertelsmann-Stiftung, which carried out the scenario conference “young politics for an aging society- our welfare state in 2030” with young politicians from Bundestag and state parliament or the Bundeswehr (Federal German Armed Forces) that also went through an interdisciplinary scenario conference.
