To keep the lead

German engineering and plant construction, referring to about 6.000 companies, is one of the largest industries in Germany. Its internationality shows when considering that already almost two thirds of sales are made outside of Central Europe. With a world trade share of 19 percent, Germany is placed significantly ahead of the USA (13 percent) and Japan (12 percent). But in the future engineering and plant construction has to face severe uncertainties: How will the diverse consumer industries develop? Which new competitors will arise? How will value-chains change?
