The Future of Urban Mobility 2040
Mobility is on everyone’s mind. The demands placed on our means of transport are many and varied, as are the opinions within the population as to how mobility should be designed. The debate about the mobility of the future has reached the centre of society, as the demands of the Fridays for Future movement show. Particularly in metropolitan areas, it becomes apparent that the current traffic volume leads to tensions not only due to environmental pollution or lost life in traffic jams. The relevance of the topic of mobility becomes clear in its diversity of influences as well as the diversity of solutions – especially in light of the associated opportunities and risks.
ScMI AG and ten partner companies navigated through the field of tension of these numerous influences in order to dare a look into the future of urban mobility. With Deutsche Bahn Connect GmbH, BMW Motorrad, Robert Bosch GmbH, hannoverimpuls GmbH, Hermes Germany GmbH, Innovationszentrum Niedersachsen GmbH, KNORR-BREMSE Systeme für Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH, MAN Truck & Bus AG, NTT DATA Deutschland GmbH as well as REWE Group, all top-class and diverse companies were involved in the scenario process. The result is an exciting contribution which not only contains differentiated images of future urban mobility, but also provides far-reaching implications for diverse players in the mobility system.
Thus, the eight scenarios developed show possible answers to core questions from the fields of technology, politics and, last but not least, society.
The eight scenarios take numerous uncertainties from the various areas of tension concerning mobility into account. From technology development and technological acceptance, environmental and transport policy to the mobility patterns of the urban population, this results in valuable and exciting pictures of the future.
